You should always protect your silk filled duvet with a removable washable cover.
A properly covered silk filled duvet should not require cleaning under normal conditions of use. Unlike feather and down filled duvets, silk filled duvets are free from dust mites and since you don't perspire when using them, they should not require thorough cleaning. We recommend airing your silk filled duvet outside twice a year on a sunny day without a cover for a minimum of 3 hours. This has the effect of cleaning and purifying the silk floss.
Your silk filled duvet should not be cleaned with any form of a chemical cleaner. Chemicals will not only affect the silks natural properties but also causes it to harden, thus reducing the softness.
You may also choose to wash your duvet in cold water, on a gentle cycle with a very mild detergent and then hang to dry. DO NOT wring or use any hear to dry. You can tumble dry your silk duvet with no heat for 20-30 minutes and then lay flat to dry completely.
You may treat spillages on your silk filled duvet by wiping the affected area immediately with a damp cloth. If the spill has penetrated through into the silk floss, then you may hand wash the affected area using room temperature water and a non-biological detergent suitable for washing woollens (such as woolite, or a lingerie cleaner) and then rinse thoroughly with cold water. |
